Body Map

EN | 2-day workshop with Roxana Galand | donation-based

Body Map is one of the 5 branches of the research “Nature of Force in the Body and Dance. It is a practice that focuses on discovering and enhancing the most unique qualities of our body and movement. It is born of a need to review the current aims of the activities we do and even our ideas about what health is. In this practice we think of corporeality from the unique potency of each person. It is approached through a series of explorations that seek to amplify our experience of the body at the level of our material configuration, at the level of our interests, attention, taste, joy, pleasure, etc. The space between naming and doing, between perceiving and naming, is interwoven. The practice is built from a bonding perspective by allowing the experience to be nourished by shared doing.

This practice involves a knowledge born from the experience, where we recognize our biology, habits and preferences by focusing on the intimate perception of the body and the movement. From there we build maps where we set up our own register of the body. This allows us to build, transform or multiply symbolic and imaginary representations that we have of ourselves. I consider the exploration necessary as a practice in itself, as a possibility of not defining ourselves, in order to be in the questions that can lead us to find our own references in our processes.
Body map proposes an experience of permanence as a strategy of amplification and overflow. So, before changing, why don’t we ask ourselves what's here, what moves us, what's vital? And only then, in the overflow of experience, dedicate ourselves to dive into the multiple possibilities.

What does the workshop focus on?

This exploration proposes to express the construction present in the tissues, gestures, preferences of mobility, perception and being. It is not a question of changing what happens here, but of experiencing it in an amplified way what we always do and which, perhaps, therefore, is intangible to us. The practice invites us to a “delay” to increase the tissue of this experience. We will try to delve into the habits that make us up to find their power, embody their qualities, enable their possibilities. But also, Body Map reminds us that the current construction is just one of the ways of living our body and our dance. Then the new and diverse possibilities emerge with greater force; that which comes from clarity. Clarity that arises from the acceptance that springs from experiencing the power of being as you are in the present.

For whom is this workshop recommended?

The NFCD seminars are recommended to practitioners and professionals of the arts and health field, and to anyone interested in the pathways of the body as a way of access to knowledge and expression of human potential.

What about the NFCD System?

NFCD is a system of practices and research that involves the events of the body, forces and dance as fields of access to knowledge for human development.
The system offers the possibility of learning to learn, of embodying knowledge from one's own experience. An experience that is a continuous practice of liberating matter, liberating our being and liberating our dance.

NFCD practices are based on dance as an expanded field of knowledge, perspectives, and procedures that vitalize our action at individual, social and planetary levels.
The process that we invite you to go through influences the construction of the living event that we are and aims to return the power of participation over our bodies, our lives and our health. Understanding the dynamic nature, connected, intertwined and with the possibility of emergence gives a new life to what we do.

The magnitude of human experience weaves every strand of the body, a web of time, habits, feelings, thoughts and dreams. To dance is to engage with these forces.
