- Somatics into Choreography
2-day workshop | EN+DE
There are numerous somatic methods that have developed in parallel with contemporary dance and have supported and nourished each other. Choreography is concerned with dance as a form of movement, but also draws inspiration from other forms of movement: martial arts, fitness, functional movement such as running or climbing, everyday movement, and very many other forms of living (and sometimes other, non-living forms of being).
Vera as a choreographer often refers to somatic methods that she has researched and experienced in SAB and various dance contexts. From somatics, which deals with the living and sensing self, she moves into form, composition, dramaturgy.
Vera shares her own practice: how she uses somatic methods in choreography. This is of course totally subjective, and just one of thousands of different ways in which somatic principles and methods can be interpreted.
What does the workshop focus on?
These two days are a laboratory where you can explore how somatic thinking and approaches can be given a choreographic form through compositional means - from a movement research, a dance sketch, an instant composition session - or all other possible formats. It is a subjective suggestion from a choreographer that can become an inspiration for your own work and approaches.
